At Zenira Camp Wednesday is one of our two excursion days in the week, and this Wednesday we had a truly special and exciting trip planned for the campers.
Beautiful old city of Sozopol
From late morning to mid afternoon we visited the small but beautiful old city of Sozopol, built on a peninsula thrust into the Black Sea. In groups the campers walked around the edge of the city, following the coastline and taking in the frequent stunning views of the sea, as well as observing all the magnificent sites Sozopol itself has to offer, from the church in the town centre, to the old design of the houses and buildings and the uncovered and protected remains of the old city. The campers had a competition in their groups to see who could take the best photographs, and there was ample time to sit and enjoy the scenery, as well as the local pancakes and doner kebabs.
We all gathered together and sang
After a quick lunch at a local restaurant we all gathered together outside the church at the centre, and sang three songs we had learned and practiced over the last week: ‘Bear Necessities’ from the Jungle Book, ‘Space Oddity’ by David Bowie, and ‘Yellow Submarine’ by the Beatles. Many of the other tourists in the area stopped what they were doing to watch and listen to us, and I personally felt a great deal of pride towards the campers for having the courage to sing in such a public space.
Aqua Park
After our trip to Sozopol, in the late afternoon we went to an Aqua Park not far from Kiten, and there enjoyed two and a half hours of pure fun. Part of what made this time so enjoyable was the great variety of rides at the park, from single rides for those daring types who seek the thrill of plummeting down a slide alone, to those experienced with a partner in inflatable rings, which are great for bonding, especially if you’re a little bit scared of a ride. There was also variety in the types of rides, from more extreme rides for the thrill seeking adrenaline-junkies, to slower more relaxing rides, like ‘The Lazy River’, for mellower types or simply those who wanted a break from the breakneck speed of the more extreme rides and an opportunity to bask in the sun.
Easy movie evening
After the thrill of the water park it was time to go back to the Green Park Hotel. The day’s activities finished off, after dinner, with a very funny and somewhat satirical animation film called ‘WALL-E’, which fits in with our ‘Space’ theme this week, and is about two robots from the future which fall in love amidst trying to get a colony of humans on a spaceship to return to Earth after hundreds of years of desertion.
