Monday, 29 July, Z CAMP 2019
Monday evening activity was a treasure hunt around camp, in which teams had to find objects following carefully planted clues. As dusk fell like a curtain being drawn on a stage, and silhouetted figures emerged from the woods with triumphant smiles and clasping their objects, I was able to reflect on one of the joys of working at Z camp ; kids being at play together, discovering the pleasure of being part of a group, finding their position within the tribe.
Theme of the week in English lessons is 'Sport'
The new arrival of kids has brought fresh energy and camp has a convivial atmosphere. The theme of the week in English lessons is Sport and we watched a video introducing the topic in our cinema. Kids were shown some of the exploits of sporting heroes past and present & we begun lessons with discussions of the benefits of Sport and the qualities that it encourages in character.
Music, cooking and team sports
Z camp English clubs kicked off the week with kids discovering their talents in either music, cooking or team sports. In the kitchen, the next generation of Master chefs followed a Mary Berry chocolate cake recipe, while Florin led music with group singing of Ray Charles, Hit the Road Jack & the team sports included some British classics like Tug o War & Egg and Spoon race.
Mike - The Camp Director
We also said farewell to two Z camp staff, Tim Carruth & Mike McDonald, who we thank enormously for their contribution to Z camp 2019. Mike has been Camp Director with me since the beginning of camp & I have been inspired by working alongside him with his relentless energy, his compassion for the kids and his leading by example to work as part of a team.
Onwards and upwards we go!
