Friday, 19 July, Z CAMP 2019
A week ago it was raining on all of our plans, but now it seems like a month ago. With days of consistent sun, spirits tend to rise, and that has certainly proved to be the case. However, we do spend a good bit of time in class, so bringing sunny attitudes is just as important, and I can assure you that has been the case. The variety of planets discovered, settlements designed, governments established, aliens discovered, letters written, brochures published….honestly it’s impressive what kids can do and think of sometimes.
Z-Camp Awards
But maybe this is all just avoiding the obvious. Fridays mean that it’s the last night of camp for some kids, and so giving them a proper send off is priority number one. To that end, we combined two camp favourites for the evening’s entertainment: Camp Awards and Karaoke. Awards, from a staff perspective, area always difficult because there are so many deserving campers and only one can actually win. But the slideshow is always a hit (who doesn’t like to see photos?), and the hugs, chants and cheers prove that winning can actually be secondary to having fun and supporting friends.
Z-camp Karaoke
Finally, we finished the night with the most enthusiastic edition of Karaoke that I have ever seen. In fact, it was less of a Karaoke Night and more of a camp sing-a-long. Seriously, it was an hour of arms around shoulders and smiles on faces. The mic had to be turned up to full volume just to be heard over the backup singers.
Last night for some campers
Unfortunately bedtime comes every night. And unfortunately Saturday means we have to say goodbye to some new and old friends. But luckily good times make it easy to focus on the present.
