Thursday, July 4, Z CAMP 2019
Thursday started Wednesday night with an ominous forecast and rumors of approaching bad weather, and the clouds didn’t look promising when the morning arrived. Not to worry though, this is an English camp, and what’s more English than a bit of rain?
Sun, sea and clear sky
So we finished breakfast, donned our flip flops, shouldered our towels and set off for the beach daring Mother Nature to try to stop us. In the face of our resolve, the clouds broke, the sun emerged and we went about our business with spirits buoyed.
First annual Z CAMP Fourth of July fashion show
After a busy afternoon of activities (windsurfing was reported to a particular success) we proceeded to the main event of the evening: the first annual Z-Camp Fourth of July fashion show! Children were divided in to groups and each given a bag of red white and blue material with which to make two American themed outfits. This was a competition of creativity and the kiddos did not disappoint. They strutted, danced and glided across the catwalk, showcasing their imaginative creations to a soundtrack rousing favorites while the audience, hot dogs in hand, loudly showed their appreciation. It was an agonizing decision for the judges and the scores were as close as could be (a tie for 2nd place), but in the end a winner has to be announced and prizes awarded.
Sun and good friends at Z CAMP
At the end of the night, as we trundled off to bed with bellies full and exhausted from so much fun, we were reminded that the shining sun, good times and good friends are their own reward.
